AGM 2023

Russell Forrest 11 Jan 23

The club is going to running in 2024 with a very enthusiastic group of fighters. Russell will be away for while so Josh, Jimmy and Griff will be looking after things now. Training will move to Thursdays only with a casual Sunday timing to start soon. The facebook page is where we post the day to day activity for the club so have a look there for the latest. Come down on a Thursday 1730  if you are not a facebook user.

AGM 2022

Russell Forrest 08 Jan 2022

The goal for this year is to grow the membership, culture, and direction of the club. Formalised training plans with a planned curriculum at a more professional location. We are still operating out of the showgrounds but have our sights set on a church for a July start to allow Josh and Russell to build and test the formal training before we start outlaying venue fees.

Training still going steady

Russell Forrest 05 Dec 21

Training every Tuesday evening from 5:30pm and some Thursdays still has steady numbers and new faces from time to time. The committee is currently looking at a new venue but the show grounds does the job for now.

Training is back on at the showgrounds

Russell Forrest 06 Aug 20

We have our COVID plan in place and contact sport is allowed again. New members signing up and the regular crew is fighting again.

Swordplay was cancelled this year so a trip to Cairns is on the cards to bring some German and Italian together.

We share a hall with the North Queensland Military Re-enacters and Collectors Club.

Still training Tuesdays 4:30pm and most Fridays 4:30pm but with lights and protection from the rain we can train later

and all through the wet season. Just on facebook for more details.

4 Members attended Swordplay 2019 over 4 days in Brisbane. The first event for 3 of us and a good learning curve for the future

A group is heading to Brisbane for Swordplay 2019

Looking at a covered training venue but nothing is locked in yet

We are training each Tuesday

Russell Forrest 25 Dec 18

We have 7 Townsville members and 3 Cairns members at the moment and new people are saying hi all the time to try it out. The club is running as a group of HEMA enthusiasts rather than a fighting school while we build up our skill base to have regular instructors to run things. With people purchasing gambesons, helmets and steel weapons we are developing a strong core group. Lets see if we can get a covered place to train with lights, some more members and the sound of steel clashing in 2019. Some photos from training is on the cards too for our website.

Update

Russell Forrest 18 Jan 2018

Start of a new year and still clanging steel. We have 3 members in Townsville now which is a start. The club is very casual at the moment with insurance and no fees until we get a few more people. We will have a presence at the defence "Welcome to Townsville" EXPO in February to get the colours up. Regular Tuesday evenings are happening but still confirming on facebook to make sure we can attend to avoid no shows. Time to see how 2018 treats us.

Update

Russell Forrest 19 Sep 2016

After our AGM it was pretty quiet with work and kids. Very little training going on at the moment but the club is still financial and the insurance is current with ALHF. Once some people free up some time or some fresh blood drives some activity we'll be straight into it again. No regular training but anyone interested just jump onto the facebook page and you can organise some sessions.

Update December 2015

Russell Forrest

The AGM was held and Troy will remain as president, Adam is the new secretary and Russell is the treasurer. Joining fees are now $60 accross the board. Memebers from this year that paid the higher fees have a shirt waiting for them so just send Russell a message on FB or catch up at St Clare's. The new patches have arrived and the Melbourne ones have been sent to Chris. All I need is a proper gambeson to sew it too. We are still maintaining a small core group with new people coming and going. The poleaxe training is coming together with lesson structure improving all the time.

Update Aug 2015

Russell Forrest

We had a demo at the ADF annual wargaming tournament that went well. I should find some photos for that. Updated some of our ranking and grading documents. The club is still going strong with a small but dedicated following even with a few people leaving interstate. A second club is now running in Melbourne setup by Chris. I was away for the start of the year so not much happenned on this website but the facebook page is our main point of communication.

Documents Sep 2014

Russell Forrest

Added documents like applications, cirriculums and gradings to the links page so you can access them without being a member of the facebook page. Try the basic terminiology link to brush up on your german. All the cards go in the correct pile and it's interpretation so some slight variations to the techniques is expected. Troy and Ken just went down to Swordplay 14 so when they return (could be a while) we'll get an update.

Update Aug 2014

Russell Forrest

New faces at the club are providing more people to fight and more funds for club gear. We have some new Red Dragon gloves on the way. Plenty of sparring with a variety of weapons is expanding techniques within the club as the main focus is on longsword but as more people bring other interests in we are learning more and more. Dagger, arming sword, sword and dagger, polearm and sword and buckler are some of the favorites.

AGM March 2014

Had our AGM at the local watering hole. Key points were the renaming of the club, grading of members recognised and new purchases of Rawlings wasters. Kunst des Fechtens, or the "Art of Fighting" embodies our teachings and we are now Kunst des Fechten, KDF, Queensland.

Larger Australian Co-ordination

Russell Forrest 9 Jan 14

Looking into the Western Martial Academies of Australia as a national representative body for Historical European Martial Arts. Bringing Landsknechte NQ into the fold could be a good thing.

Website

Russell Forrest 2014

To help with raising our profile this website has been started as a point of call for interested people. The current facebook page is a good focal point to share information so this website will be a repostory of information for reference.

More photos of the club activities are needed to flesh out the site.
